Homemade Chocolate Syrup

Hey All! Today we want to share one of our favorite quick, easy and frugal recipes, Homemade Chocolate Syrup!

Both being born and raised in the great state of Pennsylvania, there are a few things that we know to be true!... Heinz is the ONLY brand of Ketchup, The Pittsburgh Steelers are THE BEST Pennsylvania NFL team, and there is no substitute for Hershey's Chocolate Syrup. . .until now (the first 2 statements are still true!)

                     Ingredients:

- 1/2 cup Cocoa Powder (we prefer Hershey's, but as you can see, off brands work just fine!)
- 1 cup Sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
- 1 cup Water
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla

Steps:

1. Place cocoa powder, sugar and salt in a saucepan

2. Gradually add water and mix until smooth

3. Turn heat on medium - medium high and bring to a boil. Stir frequently and use caution, the sugar/water mixture gets VERY hot and will quickly double or triple in size once boiling.

4. Once the mixture comes to a boil, turn heat to medium low and boil for 1 min exactly without stirring. Immediately remove from heat after 1 min. Keep a watchful eye as the mixture can easily boil over.

5. Add vanilla to the sauce and cool until you feel comfortable transferring it into an airtight container

The Chocolate sauce will thicken as it cools. Keep syrup in fridge, use like you would the original Hershey's Chocolate Syrup. I've used the empty Hershey's bottle for storage and no one knows the difference (insert evil laugh)

ENJOY!!
