James the builder. . .Can we fix it? Yes we can!

Early on in our relationship both James and I had an opportunity to partake in recovery mission in New Orleans where we spent a week with a group of classmates help rebuild a home that was affected by Katrina 5 years previously. Because of the water damage, the entire home needed redone! It was there that both James and I realized that we have a passion for custom building.

Since graduating and moving to Dallas, we have had an opportunity to build 2 custom pieces. The first piece was the potting table for my patio, that most of you have scene pictures of. The second piece that we build was a desk! After crunching numbers for additional cost associated with the new apartment, I have decided to stay where I am for another year and save the additional money towards a down payment for a home. The biggest draw back to that decision was the lack of a home office, which is what prompted the initial move. James, being the nice person that he is, saw that I really wanted a desk and came up with this brilliant plan to custom build a small desk to make my current apartment more comfortable.

We ended up taking the small "breakfast bar" were, previously 2 small stools held my purse and turned it into this BEAUTIFUL secretary desk! We bought all of the wood from the clearance bin at Home Depot for $0.50 a piece of wood regardless of size, and splurged and bought a set of tools during the Fathers Day sale for $89.00 which included a cordless drill, circular saw, reciprocating saw and industrial flashlight. Minus the cost of tools, he was able to build the desk for less than $50.00 including paint and materials. I am very excited to start using the desk and FINALLY have a place to pay bills, check emails and organize my life, I am very blessed to have such a handy man around the house!
